Cheri-Ann May shines with a 160 checkout as defending champion Ashleigh Adonis conquers Yolande van Rooyen in the final

Sixteen ladies took to the oche on Sunday, 11 October 2026, at the Tygerflights Clubhouse in Bellville South, all chasing the prestigious Jeff Adams Memorial Ladies Tier title. Among the leading contenders were defending champion Ashleigh Adonis, Protea player Yolande van Rooyen and newly crowned Protea player Cheri-Ann May.

With such a quality field assembled, the stage was set for an exciting day of ladies’ darts.

ROUND-ROBIN SURPRISES

The group stage produced its fair share of surprises. One of the biggest casualties was recently crowned CTD Singles champion Chevonne van Rooyen, who finished as one of the tournament’s wooden spoonists alongside Henrietta Roman, Chantal Meiring and Rosy Jacobs.

Zara Page endured a particularly cruel exit. Despite winning two group matches and finishing on six points alongside Meaghan Francis and Carlene Bouwers, Page missed out on qualification after recording the lowest three-dart average among the tied players.

The Elite Eight who progressed to the knockout stage were Yolande van Rooyen, Cheri-Ann May, Ashleigh Adonis, Meaghan Francis, Tania Mains, Chantelle Pietersen, Nicole Fortuin and Carlene Bouwers.

QUARTER-FINALS: THE FAVOURITES DELIVER

Yolande van Rooyen opened the quarter-finals with a 3–1 victory over Tania Mains, averaging 51.82 against Mains’ 50.06 in a competitive encounter.

Chantelle Pietersen produced an impressive performance to sweep aside Meaghan Francis 3–0, recording a 53.68 average against Francis’ 46.19.

Cheri-Ann May then announced her intentions in emphatic fashion. Despite losing the opening leg to Nicole Fortuin, who finished in 22 darts even after May had thrown a 180, May responded by winning the next three legs in just 62 darts. Her outstanding 70.27 average included four 140s and a 180 as she secured a 3–1 victory.

Adonis completed the semi-final line-up by overcoming Carlene Bouwers in a tight encounter, averaging 55.17 and recording five tons in her 3–1 win.

SEMI-FINAL DRAMA: A MOTHER-DAUGHTER SHOWDOWN

The first semi-final delivered one of the day's most dramatic matches, with Yolande van Rooyen facing her daughter, Chantelle Pietersen.

In a contest where every leg went with the throw, van Rooyen eventually prevailed 3–2. Pietersen will rue the opportunity she missed after failing to convert seven match darts that could have sent her into the final.

The second semi-final was equally tense. Defending champion Adonis produced her best performance of the day, averaging 62.67 to overcome May 3–2, with May recording a respectable 58.54 average.

MAY MAKES HER MARK IN THE PLAY-OFF

Although May narrowly missed out on the final, she finished her tournament in spectacular fashion.

In the third-place play-off, May demolished Pietersen 3–0, producing an exceptional 77.74 three-dart average. She also recorded the highest checkout of the tournament, a magnificent 160, and registered a best leg of 18 darts.

It was a fitting end to a remarkable individual campaign.

ADONIS RECLAIMS HER CROWN!

The final saw defending champion Ashleigh Adonis take on Yolande van Rooyen for the title.

Adonis held her nerve to secure a 3–1 victory and successfully defend her crown, confirming that she remains a formidable force in the Jeff Adams Memorial Ladies Tier.

After winning the title in 2025, Adonis returned in 2026 to reclaim the trophy and underline her credentials as one of the leading players in ladies’ darts.

The crown remains with Ashleigh Adonis!

MAY LEADS THE STATISTICS

Despite falling short of the title, Cheri-Ann May was arguably the statistical standout of the tournament.

She recorded an overall three-dart average of 66.14, claimed the prize for the highest checkout with her 160 finish, and shared the best-leg honours with Adonis after both players recorded 18-dart legs. May achieved the feat twice, while Adonis managed it once.

May also recorded two 180s, while Tashniema Booysen added another maximum to the day’s tally.

FINAL VERDICT

Adonis leaves Bellville South with the trophy after another championship performance, while van Rooyen finishes runner-up following a determined run to the final.

But May's outstanding scoring, spectacular 160 checkout and tournament-leading statistics ensured that she was one of the biggest talking points of the day.

Congratulations to Ashleigh Adonis on successfully defending her Jeff Adams Memorial Ladies Tier title, and to all the ladies who contributed to a memorable day of darts at Tygerflights!
