SIMPSON STRIKES BACK IN THRILLING EVENT 4 FINAL
Petersen may have set the pace — but Simpson has just fired back.
Circuit 1 champion edges Petersen 4–2 as both finalists average over 70
After Adrian Petersen's dominant run in Event 3, the former Circuit 1 champion produced a statement performance at Pensioners Circuit 2 Event 4, defeating Petersen 4–2 in a high-quality Gold Final on Friday, 2 October.
The final lived up to expectations, with both players averaging above 70. Simpson recorded an outstanding 75.86 three-dart average, while Petersen finished on 71.18.
Simpson's route to the title included a 3–0 win over Colin Griffith, a narrow 3–2 escape against Brian Baiman and a 3–1 semi-final victory over David Lawrence. Petersen also had to work hard, surviving Kasandra Thavarin 3–2 before progressing through Mark MacMahon and Robert Blom.
BAIMAN'S TWO 180s NOT ENOUGH
One of the night's most intriguing contests came when Brian Baiman faced Simpson in the Last 16.
Baiman hit two 180s and pushed the eventual champion to the limit, eventually going down 3–2. His performance showed that he had the scoring power to challenge Simpson, but crucial missed opportunities prevented him from closing out the match when it mattered.
It was a frustrating exit for Baiman — one that could easily have produced a different result had he converted his chances.
QUALITY THROUGHOUT THE FIELD
The achievement statistics underline the standard of Event 4.
Simpson's 75.86 was the best match average recorded, while Petersen's four 180s led the maximums. Baiman added two 180s, with Simpson and Robert Blom contributing one each.
David Lawrence produced the tournament's best leg with a superb 12-darter, while Petersen and Kasandra Thavarin both recorded 13-dart legs. Robert Blom registered the highest checkout at 100, with Petersen adding an 88.
“RUNAWAY” MACMAHON LIVES UP TO HIS NAME
Mark “Runaway” MacMahon was in outstanding form in the Chef competition, producing one of the day's best performances.
MacMahon defeated Deon Adams 2–0 in the Chef Final, averaging an impressive 71.57.
That average was not merely good for a Chef final — it was the second-best match average of the entire event, behind only Simpson's 75.86.
BEUKES STUNS CLARKE IN LADIES FINAL
Bahieja Clarke and Susan Beukes
The Ladies Final delivered a major surprise as Susan Beukes produced a commanding display to defeat Bahieja Clarke 3–0.
Beukes averaged 53.68, a very respectable figure that reflected her control throughout the final.
Clarke had reached the final after a competitive 2–1 victory over Aakifah Karriem, while Beukes overcame Lee-Ann Joshua by the same scoreline. But once the final began, Beukes took complete control and secured the Ladies title without dropping a leg.
SIMPSOM FIRES A WARNING SHOT
Event 4 has changed the complexion of Circuit 2.
Petersen had looked almost untouchable after his dominant Event 3 victory. Simpson has now answered in emphatic fashion, defeating him in a final where both players broke the 70-average barrier.
With the leading players raising their standards and challengers such as Baiman, MacMahon and others continuing to threaten, Circuit 2 is developing into a fiercely contested battle.
